Julia is a senior at The George Washington University, majoring in political science and minoring in journalism, and a summer intern at NBC’s Meet the Press. Her past experiences include CNN’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, and NBC’s TODAY Show. She’s also worked in foreign media, local DC outlets, and The GW Hatchet covering US foreign policy, tech, and campus happenings. She loves K-Pop, coffee, and her iPhone.
Talia Balakirsky is a senior at The George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs and Columbian College, double-majoring in journalism and political science. She has previously interned at Philadelphia Magazine and the U.S. House of Representatives. She will serve as Editor-in-Chief of the George Washington University Undergraduate Law Review beginning in the fall and will be working as a legal intern for Warner Bros. Entertainment this summer.
Josh Axelrod is a graduate student in GW’s media and strategic communications program. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 2014 with bachelor’s degree in journalism. He has worked in many newsrooms, including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, NBC Washington, USA Today and the Washington Examiner. He is is excited to be leading MediaFile’s Politics team going forward!
Fiona Byon is a junior studying political communication at GW. A news and current events junkie, Fiona is also the Director of Hospitality for GW Dance Marathon. She previously wrote for the Politics Desk at MediaFile and is looking forward to leading the International team.
Brett Maney is a senior studying political communication. She has previously worked on governor’s races, senate campaigns, and in a variety of artisanal dessert shops. Her political musings can be found on Twitter.
Jess Pitocco is a journalism major in GW’s School of Media and Public Affairs. She has held many internships, from a traditional newsroom to a marketing and strategic communications job. Rob Cline is a sophomore at GW, where he studies political communication and statistics. Rob has been writing op-eds for local newspapers since his freshman year of high school, and sees opinion writing as an important form of political advocacy. He is particularly interested in the intersection of politics and data, and how big data is shaping both the media and political campaigns. Rob currently works as a research assistant at SMPA and enjoys playing guitar, playing tennis, and arguing about anything.
Caroline Rexrode is a sophomore political communication major at GW. She has a passion for grammar, editing, and politics. She has 3 years of copy editing experience, and will serve as MediaFile’s fact checker this year. She has worked on communications teams at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Brass Tactics, and is excited to be a part of the MediaFile team.
